How To Be a Better Designer
- If you want to be a better designer, first I would make sure you are a decent drawing, if your not, don't worry, keep practicing and check out this link. If you want a video, check this link out. Being a good drawer allows you to create better thumbnail sketches, a better rough copy, and even a better good copy, this is important for making sure your good copy is the best it can be.
- Now that you're better at drawing, you can start designing. Remember to use the design process, which you can read about on my Design 11 page. In order to start designing you need an idea, I recommend something you enjoy, or are passionate about. For me it's gaming, and I can get an endless amount of ideas from this topic. Having a good imagination can also help out a lot here. Designing can be really anything, you can design a picture for your wall, a logo for yourself, a cool shelve, or even a whole house plan. As long as you have an idea, follow the design process, and stay motivated, you will be able to design stuff in no time. If you're still having a hard time, check out this link.
Things you'll need
- When designing something, there are many tools you will need to use, the following tools are recommended for graphic design.
- A pencil, different shades of pencils are even better, ex: a 2H and maybe a 3B, to allow darker and lighter lines.
- An eraser, something that will erase any mistake you happen to make.
- A ruler, straight lines are important, and help line quality.
- Paper, just regular printer paper is fine, but grid paper is great if your doing something to scale.
- Colored pencils or markers, anything to color with, this will make your good copy of a drawing really come to life.
- A drawing compass, this will let you easily draw circles of any size.
- A sharpener, your pencils will go dull at some point.
- A pen or fine tip sharpie, this could be used for outlining, or marking important features.
